Wendler – Opening of new factory in Vietnam

SPECIALIST FOR INTERLINING CONTINUES TO GROW EMPHASISING ITS FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY

Reutlingen (DE), Tam Ky City (VIE). On August 1, 2020 Wendler Interlining, the specialist for interlining in the apparel industry, has opened its most modern and first “Green Factory” in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. The site is 100% owned by the company Wendler.

To strengthen its global footprint and service Wendler, the global specialist for interlinings in the apparel industry, has built its production facility in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province in Vietnam: Wendler Interlining Vietnam. Many international and renowned fashion brands collaborate with Wendler Interlining for the production of their garments. The new facility including its warehousing infrastructure with a minimum stock level of around 2 million meters of interlining including seam tapes embraces sustainability throughout. The annualized production capacity offers a volume of 30 million meters. “This drives our service flexibility, both domestically and internationally to the next level, "explains Jimmy Kwok, Head of Sales - Asia based at Wendler Hong Kong.

Sustainable production for the future

This new "Green Factory" has been built under LEED standards. “With our LEED Gold certification, we are one of only 18 LEED certified textile factories in Vietnam. The energy for the production is generated through climate neutral biomass as fuel. And it is our intention to install solar based energy infrastructure in due course. The wastewater of our bleaching and dyeing process treated at highest technological standards being potable and reintegrated in the production process through a fully closed cycle, “explains Andrew Bach, General Director at Wendler Vietnam. Such a comprehensive sustainability concept is still the exception in the international textile industry. Special exhaust filters in the boiler process are minimizing CO2 emissions. Further environmentally friendly measures are electric charging stations for motorcycles of employees, and collected rainwater is used for landscaping.

“Wendler is a family-owned business and we take responsibility for our employees, customers, the communities and of course our environment. The decision to build an environment-friendly new production site in Vietnam was paramount, " says Dr. Gerhart Wendler, Shareholder and Chairman of Wendler Interlining Group. Vietnam is one of the countries that particularly supports "environmentally friendly measures". The construction of the modern "Green Factory" was therefore very much welcomed.

Ensuring consistent quality

First production trials started; the factory will be in operation effective from October 2020. All interlining articles are manufactured and supplied according to Wendler quality standards in every production process - from bleaching, dyeing, finishing, coating to final inspection. "With the investment in the latest technological capabilities and our advanced quality control, we will ensure the further expansion of our well-known quality standards, “says Raymond Kong, Head of Product – Asia based at Wendler Hong Kong. In addition to the production of interlining articles, the company also offers seam tapes, technical services and test reports on site. "We are currently establishing important social, economic and ecological standards such as SA8000, ISO9001, ISO14001, GOTS and OEKO-TEX® 100, which will be completed by latest 2021," adds Andrew Bach.

Strengthening the global presence

The subsidiary in Vietnam is the Group’s fifth production site complementing our locations in Germany, Bangladesh, China and India. It further strengthens our global presence in the world's major garment manufacturing centres. “We also expect an increasing demand for our interlining domestically in Vietnam. Our new factory enables us to act fast and flexibly," explains Eberhard Huter, Managing Director of Wendler Asia. At the same time, with its favourable geographical location, the new site allows fast turn-around in supply globally benefiting Vietnam’s trade agreements within ASEAN countries and other numerous countries (including the EU). Vietnam's good accessibility to international destinations by sea via the deep-sea ports of Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City is a key advantage.

"With the opening of our new factory and warehouse facility we can offer highest efficiency in the production of woven interlinings. Unifying R&D, production, logistics and service at one location we further enhance and expand our key competencies of product quality, innovation, product availability and fast and flexible supply with our customers benefitting from an even higher degree of service level, " concludes Frank Sailer, Managing Director of Wendler Interlining Group.
